Survey: From Planning to Implementation, is it Happening in Your Region?
The Rural Secretariat, in partnership with Memorial University's Department of Geography, Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation (KEDC), the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is conducting research into Strategic Planning in the Gander New Wes Valley Rural Secretariat Region in Central Newfoundland.
As a regional planning practitioner, we would like to ask for your support and participation in this research project titled Economic & Socio-economic Planning Processes: Beyond the Document. The goal of this research project is:
- To identify critical success factors and barriers for small communities in moving from planning to plan implementation, including consideration of the unique requirements and challenges in multi-community planning processes;
- To recommend steps that can be taken to maximize benefits and minimize challenges associated with these processes; and
- To share lessons regionally and provincially on effective community and multi-community socio-economic planning processes.
Phase 1 of the study involved an examination of planning processes in seven regions within the Gander-New-Wes-Valley Rural Secretariat region. In Phase 2 a comparison was made between the planning approaches used in each of the seven cases. The purpose of this survey is to determine whether the findings of Phase 2 are relevant beyond the Gander-New-Wes-Valley region. To assist with achieving this objective we request that you complete the follow-up survey below. Additional information, including an Executive Summary and the Phase 2 project report, can be found at the links below.
Your participation in this study is voluntary. You have the right to refuse to answer any question, or request that your information be withdrawn from the study at any time. Every effort will be made to ensure your responses are kept in strict confidence. Despite these efforts and intentions there remains a risk that potentially identifying information may be included in reports and other publications.
Thank you for considering this request. I hope we can count on your participation and support in this important study. A report on the results will be provided to all participants in fall 2010.
