Keep It in Kittiwake - KEDC Launches Buy Local Phase 2
Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation has launched phase 2 of a Buy Local Campaign to help support local products.
The Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation’s Buy Local Campaign was launched in 2007 with focus on agricultural produce, highlighting the high quality of vegetables and fruits grown within Zone 14. A total of 21 participating retailers throughout the region were linked with local farmers in order to provide locally grown produce in grocery outlets. Participating stores were provided with signage, stickers, brochures, and other information about the benefits of buying local.
With the success of the campaign in 2007, the KEDC is continuing with its Buy Local Campaign by working with restaurants in the region to highlight local products, including produce, seafood, desserts, and wines. So far, 10 Participating restaurants have been provided with promotional items in two available forms, tent cards or disposable placemats, which include the Buy Local logo and slogan, as well as information on the benefits of buying local.
The promotional items will encourage customers to ask about which local choices are available and will lead to increase demand for local products within the restaurant sector.
“I am very excited to be continuing with the Buy Local Campaign for 2008. As part of the natural progression of the campaign, we felt that it was important to highlight a wider range of local products including produce, seafood, desserts, and wines. By moving into the restaurants sector, we can establish the connections needed to provide high quality products in our food establishments. The Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation has worked diligently to profile restaurants within our region and to link them with local products. This is an all around win-win; for the producers, store owners, restaurant owners, consumers, tourists, and of course the economy”, expresses Jill Bennett, Executive Director of KEDC.
KEDC has received tremendous support and feedback from communities about the Buy Local Campaign.
