Preparing for the Next Generation
Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation is helping cultural and heritage sites in Central Newfoundland to prepare for the new generation of tourists.
As a part of their 2007 workplan, the Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation will be hosting a Professional Development workshop in Lewisporte at the Lewisporte and Area Development Association on June 14th from 10 am to 4 pm. KEDC is working with the Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (MANL) on this workshop which will provide an overview of successful museum practices in an effort to aid cultural heritage sites in attracting the new generation of visitors. With over 35 people registered to take part in this workshop, including some from outside of KEDC’s boundaries, the Board and Staff of KEDC are very pleased with the interest as well as the helpful information this workshop will bring to participants.
"This workshop will be a great opportunity to gather information and tips on how to present the information and artifacts at our museums and sites so as to create a better experience for the visitor", states Doug Churchill, Chairperson of the Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation’s Tourism Committee.
“We are very excited to be able to offer this training to our many cultural tourism owners and operators. Not only will this training enhance the outstanding cultural product that currently exists within our region, but will also provide the owners and operators professional enhancement training that will provide for a better product for today’s tourist”, expresses Jill Bennett, Executive Director of KEDC.
Rev. Barry King, PhD. (TC) will be facilitating the workshop and comes with an extensive background dealing with cultural and heritage sites. Rev. King has worked in the heritage sector for over 30 years working primarily in museums. He has also worked in National Parks and as a private contractor in interpretation and educational programming.
