The region has significant award-winning tourism development based upon the crash site of Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin. The Town of Musgrave Harbour is also known for its miles of sandy beach that line the Kittiwake Coast. The Town of Carmanville has a deepwater seaport that can accommodate large freighters and refrigerator cargo ships, which has been a large economic generator for this region.
